I am an educator, mom, and wife living in San Antonio, Texas. I am a native Texan, but I have moved around a lot and taught in many different places. I taught students in early childhood special education as a paraprofessional, behavior therapist, itinerant special educator, and classroom teacher for about 6 years in Boston, San Antonio, and even in Germany.
My bachelor’s (B.A.) and master’s (M.Ed.) degrees are from The University of Texas at Austin (Hook’em Horns!!).
I am a certified teacher in Texas in general education from 1st through 8th grade and in special education from birth through 12th grade. In 2009, I went back to school to get my Doctorate in Special Education (Ed.D.) from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After graduating in 2014, I taught Master's level education courses in assessment, literacy, and student teaching for several years , and consulted with a graduate school program in early childhood special education. I started 1-2-1 Education Solutions in January 2020, and now, consult and work with students in elementary and middle school.
My consulting, teaching, and blog all focus on professional experience and research-based strategies that are effective for students who have a wide range of abilities. I have taught education concepts like multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), behavior management, differentiation, inclusion, culturally responsive practices, task analyses, and systems of prompts.
I enjoy teaching educators and collaborating with them to create positive learning environments for all students. I love partnering with families because they know their child best. Together, we can help a child develop academically and socially.
